Important notice about
Financial Aid Scam!! Please read the following from the Director of
Financial Aid at Mission College.
A student reported to me
today that she received a telephone call on her cell phone from “GrantUniversity.Com.”
The person calling identified himself as a financial aid representative and
that he was trying to access further grant funds for her use while attending
school (he did not specify that she was attending Mission College). This
call was early morning and woke the student out of a sound sleep. Because
she had applied for financial aid and because she was still groggy from
being awakened, she answered some personal identification questions that she
should not have. The caller was also able to provide some information about
her that, while not secure, she felt was secure enough and information she
thought was only available to Mission College. The caller requested and was
given access information to the student’s bank account on the pretext that
additional grant funds would be directly delivered to her account.
After ending the call,
the student realized that she should not have given the information that she
did and called me directly. Because of this call and her release of
personal identification and banking information to the caller, she has since
called her bank and closed her account. She realized she did the wrong
thing by releasing information and she asked that I put out a warning to
students about this type of call.
Please let students know
:
· This type of call is NOT authorized nor contact information
provided by Mission College Financial Aid
· That you do NOT pay to have grants or
scholarships awarded to you
· That at this time, Mission College Financial
Aid does NOT have the ability to directly debit students accounts
· That Mission College Financial Aid does NOT
collect information of any kind over the phone – any requests or receipts of
information must be in writing
Thank you.

Financial Aid
Financial aid
is money for college. It is provided by the United State
taxpayers to ensure that everyone who wants a college education has the
financial ability to pay for their college expenses.
Financial aid
is also a partnership between you - the student - and the college that
provides money to help pay college costs. If you receive financial
aid, it is expected that you will enroll in courses needed to complete your
chosen program, work hard at learning, and move responsibly toward
successful completion of your educational goal.
We strive to
assist you in a professional and timely manner. If at any time you do
not feel that your needs are being met, please do not hesitate to contact
me.
